Grounded presence, deep listening, and encouragement for women who are depressed or overwhelmed or highly sensitive. If you are a woman who is experiencing depression; anxiety; stress or burnout; relationship disappointment; dysthymia; chronic illness; or you are a highly-sensitive person, Emily may be the right Christian counselor for you. She helps women like you discover the courage to grow and flourish—right in the middle of life’s challenges, not just after they’re resolved.
Emily has a heart for Christian women who want to integrate their faith into the healing process. She understands the unique pressures many women face in faith communities—expectations to stay strong, keep serving, and hide their struggles behind a polite smile. She gently helps you rediscover that your worth is not measured by your productivity or your mood. You’ll find her counseling approach to be calm and reflective, grounded and encouraging.

Trauma Therapy for Adults

If you are over 40 and looking for a direct, skilled, no-fluff approach to trauma therapy, Rachel may be the right fit. You probably are not new to therapy. You have told your story. You have tried to make sense of it. You have learned how to cope the best way you know how. And you are still stuck. You may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or simply not okay. You may also be hesitant to try therapy again because it has failed you in the past. The last thing you want is to spend years unpacking, discovering, or reliving the worst things that have happened to you. This may feel especially true if you have never been in therapy before and are unsure what to expect.
Rachel specializes in working with adults who carry complex trauma, dissociation, and suicidal thoughts, especially when what they are experiencing feels hard to explain or impossible to resolve. Her work is not focused on simply managing symptoms or helping clients remain functional enough. It is designed to reach the level where trauma is actually held: in the nervous system and body, beyond the reach of the thinking brain alone. This includes attachment wounds, shock, and the kind of deep aloneness that does not shift through insight or willpower.
Her style is relational and direct, never passive. She pays close attention, tracks what is happening in real time, and is willing to say what needs to be said to move the work forward. This is deep work, and it is not for everyone. But for clients who are tired of circling the same patterns and are ready to go underneath them, Rachel’s approach may resonate. For clients who want their Christian faith integrated into therapy, Rachel does so with integrity, gentleness, and without religious pressure or awkwardness. She particularly enjoys working with law enforcement, military members, and veterans—people who often carry experiences that do not translate easily outside those worlds.
Rachel’s therapy dog, Henry, a gentle giant, is also present in sessions. Clients often joke that they come to see Henry and Rachel is the bonus therapist.

Anxiety + Relationship Counseling for Women, Teens & Couples

Grounded, deeply human care rooted in neuroscience, helping clients heal from trauma and move toward a more integrated and meaningful life. Nathanael or "Nando" creates a calm, steady space where clients can slow down, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what they’ve been carrying. His approach is relational, nonjudgmental, and attuned, allowing clients to feel genuinely seen and heard without pressure or pathologizing. His work focuses on how trauma shapes not just symptoms, but identity, relationships, and direction in life.
Rather than stopping at symptom relief, Nando also helps clients reconnect with purpose, values, and a sense of forward movement once stability is established. When helpful, he integrates career and life-direction conversations into the therapeutic process, especially for adults navigating transitions. This can include clarifying identity, recognizing strengths, and making decisions that align with who they are becoming. Clients often appreciate his grounded presence, thoughtful pacing, and ability to hold both depth and direction, creating space for honest exploration while supporting meaningful change. Nando is a U.S. Military veteran and brings a nuanced understanding of the experiences of active duty service members, veterans, and the families who support them.

Therapy Dog
Henry is a therapy dog at Joshua Tree. He is Rachel's "soul dog" and walking buddy. You can't help but love this gentle giant and what you might call "an old soul." Henry loves long walks, stealing stuffies to snuggle, sitting on chairs, traveling with his head out the window, and curling up in cozy spaces. He is at the office most days so you may be greeted by Henry when you arrive or see him wandering in and out of offices. He may approach you in the waiting area and sniff you but won't lick, jump, or slobber; he moves slow and can often be spotted lazily laying in the hallway. He loves treats (we have jars of treats located around the office), and he loves belly and ear scratches. He has experience will adults, teens, babies, toddlers, and children - he is incredibly tolerant, intuitive, and submissive. He sits, lays down, and shakes (both paws) on command. See disclaimer below.
Location: Often hanging around at Joshua Tree and in sessions with Rachel Lohrman
Client Focus: Everyone and Anyone
Specialty Areas: Regulation, Grounding, Comfort, Curiosity

Disclaimer: While Rachel and Henry have participated in training with a professional dog trainer, it is important to remember that Henry is an animal, and animals can be unpredictable. Henry is a “gentle giant” who is generally slow moving and non-invasive. However, he likes to greet clients in the waiting room and may approach or sniff you. While Henry is screened by a veterinarian on a regular basis and is current on his Rabies vaccination, animals do sometimes carry disease however we believe your risk is low due to the minimal contact you will have with Henry. While we have listed some common risks to having a therapy dog on premises, we cannot foresee all potential risks. You will be asked to review and sign a release of risk and acknowledgement that Henry is on premises in the Informed Consent document.
