Therapy Dog
Henry is a therapy dog at Joshua Tree. He is Rachel's "soul dog" and walking buddy. You can't help but love this gentle giant and what you might call "an old soul." Henry loves long walks, stealing stuffies to snuggle, sitting on chairs, traveling with his head out the window, and curling up in cozy spaces. He is at the office most days so you may be greeted by Henry when you arrive or see him wandering in and out of offices. He may approach you in the waiting area and sniff you but won't lick, jump, or slobber; he moves slow and can often be spotted lazily laying in the hallway. He loves treats (we have jars of treats located around the office), and he loves belly and ear scratches. He has experience will adults, teens, babies, toddlers, and children - he is incredibly tolerant, intuitive, and submissive. He sits, lays down, and shakes (both paws) on command. See disclaimer below.
Location: Often hanging around at Joshua Tree and in sessions with Rachel Lohrman
Client Focus: Everyone and Anyone
Specialty Areas: Regulation, Grounding, Comfort, Curiosity

Disclaimer: While Rachel and Henry have participated in training with a professional dog trainer, it is important to remember that Henry is an animal, and animals can be unpredictable. Henry is a “gentle giant” who is generally slow moving and non-invasive. However, he likes to greet clients in the waiting room and may approach or sniff you. While Henry is screened by a veterinarian on a regular basis and is current on his Rabies vaccination, animals do sometimes carry disease however we believe your risk is low due to the minimal contact you will have with Henry. While we have listed some common risks to having a therapy dog on premises, we cannot foresee all potential risks. You will be asked to review and sign a release of risk and acknowledgement that Henry is on premises in the Informed Consent document.

Adults 40+
If you're over 40 and you're looking for a direct, skilled, no-fluff approach to trauma therapy, we should meet. You probably aren't new to therapy. You've told your story. You've tried to make sense of it. You’ve learned how to cope the best way you know how. And you’re still stuck. You're overwhelmed. You're not okay. You are probably hesitant to try therapy again. Maybe it's failed you in the past. And you definitely don't want to spend years unpacking, discovering, or reliving all the worst things that happened to you. Especially if you've never done therapy before. I specialize in working with adults who carry complex trauma, dissociation, and suicidal thoughts—especially when it feels hard to explain or impossible to resolve. This type of therapy isn’t about managing symptoms or staying functional enough. It’s about working at the level where trauma actually lives—in the nervous system, in your body, where your thinking brain can't access it. I use Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Trauma Model Therapy, and Ego State Therapy to help your system process what got stuck at the time of the experience. That includes attachment wounds, shock, and the kind of deep aloneness that doesn’t shift with insight or willpower. I’m relational, and I'm direct, not passive. I’m paying attention, I’m tracking what’s happening in real time, and I will say what needs to be said to move the work forward. This is deep work. And it’s not for everyone. But if you’re tired of circling the same patterns and you’re ready to go underneath them, there’s a good chance this will resonate. For clients who want their Christian faith integrated into therapy, I do this with integrity and gentleness, and without any religious weirdness. I particularly enjoy working with law enforcement, military, and veterans—people who often carry experiences that don’t translate easily outside those worlds. Oh, and—my therapy dog, Henry, a gentle giant, is with us in sessions. Most people joke that they come to see Henry and I come as a bonus therapist. Click the link below to learn more.

She works with adults, teens and older children to explore thoughts and emotions; and to build coping, communication and relational skills. Important Note: Counselors at Joshua Tree work as independent contractors, not employees. Therefore, each counselor owns and operates their own counseling practice. Joshua Tree contracts with them to provide services. Because of this structure, each counselor sets their own fees and policies. Each counselor also determines the ages and populations they serve. In conjunction, Joshua Tree does not direct how counselors provide counseling. However, counselors choose to join our collective for comradery and support. They also value the community found in a group practice.
