What Makes a Good Fit

Different strengths.
Shared standards.

There is room here for different personalities, therapeutic approaches, and ways of connecting. What brings us together is a commitment to thoughtful care, professional responsibility, and continued growth. These are the qualities we look for in the counselors who join us.

You know who you serve best.

You have a clear specialty, or are intentionally developing your clinical focus. You can describe the people you work with best, explain your approach, and recognize when another therapist would be a better fit.

You take the work seriously.

You bring sound clinical judgment and a willingness to stay present with difficult stories. You work within your training and competence, seek consultation when needed, and care about helping clients make meaningful progress.

You bring relational maturity.

You communicate directly and respectfully, honor boundaries, and work through concerns with the people involved. You bring self-awareness to your relationships with clients and colleagues.

You take ownership.

You follow through on documentation, client communication, and professional responsibilities. You take an active role in building your caseload and developing a consistent, sustainable practice.

You stay curious.

You keep learning, ask thoughtful questions, and remain open to feedback. You respect the strengths other clinicians bring and contribute to a shared environment with consideration and care.

You hold faith thoughtfully.

Your Christian faith matters to you. You welcome clients from different backgrounds, respect their beliefs and choices, and integrate prayer, Scripture, or other expressions of faith only when the client requests it.

What does it feel like
to sit across from you?

Your presence and personality are part of your clinical identity. We want clients to understand whom you help, how you work, and what it might feel like to meet with you before their first appointment.

Who Thrives at Joshua Tree

You have something to bring.
And room to keep growing.

Some counselors come to Joshua Tree after another career. Others have built a solo practice and now want more connection and support. Still others bring a specialty developed in another clinical setting and are ready to focus on that work with private-pay clients.

Although their paths differ, they share self-awareness, something meaningful to offer, and a willingness to take responsibility for their practice.

You know yourself.

Experience from work and life gives you perspective and confidence in the care you offer. At the same time, that self-awareness helps you recognize your strengths and stay open to growth.

You take initiative.

When questions arise, you use your judgment, look for information, and work toward solutions. You also know when to ask for help. As you learn what works, you are willing to adapt and keep moving your practice forward.

You understand how a practice grows.

Building a caseload takes time. For that reason, you think realistically about session fees, expenses, and variable income. A plan for a gradual start gives your practice room to develop. As it grows, you are willing to make thoughtful adjustments.

You want to know the people around you.

A professional home with other mature Christian believers appeals to you because connection matters. For example, group messages and everyday conversations offer ways to get to know your colleagues. Optional gatherings provide another opportunity to build those relationships.

And then there’s Kelly.

Our practice manager brings warmth, practical experience, and follow-through to the details that surround clinical work. For example, Kelly helps clients get started and assists with scheduling and billing questions. As a result, the practice feels welcoming and well cared for. If you have handled those responsibilities on your own, you will understand the value of that support.

What Joshua Tree Provides

A place for your work to take root.

Joshua Tree brings together welcoming spaces, established systems, and practical support to help you develop your independent practice. You bring your clinical expertise and the relationships you build with your clients.

Space

Offices that feel welcoming.

Furnished counseling rooms at our Oracle and La Cholla locations offer a comfortable setting for your work. Office arrangements are discussed based on available space and the practice you want to build.

Support

A familiar person for practical questions.

Our practice manager, Kelly Formo, helps with new-client onboarding, scheduling, billing, and practical questions. Clients have a familiar point of contact as they get started and navigate the details of care.

Systems

Tools already in place.

A shared electronic health record, scheduling tools, client portal, billing support, and payment processing provide the practical infrastructure for your clinical work.

Identity

A profile that sounds like you.

Your profile on our shared website highlights the people you help, your specialties, your approach, and your personality. We want prospective clients to have a meaningful sense of you before they request an appointment.

Visibility

Opportunities for clients to find you.

An established Tucson presence, practice marketing, and client inquiries can help appropriate clients discover your work. You also take an active role in developing your professional identity and referral relationships.

Connection

A shared professional setting.

Practice alongside Christian counselors with different specialties, experiences, and approaches. Optional community gatherings offer opportunities to get to know one another beyond the counseling room.

Your clinical identity.
An established foundation.

The goal is a practice that is meaningful, professionally responsible, and sustainable over time. We will talk together about your goals, available office arrangements, and how Joshua Tree’s support fits the practice you want to build.

The Independent Contractor Model

Practice independently.
Know what to expect.

Therapists at Joshua Tree practice as independent contractors. You retain responsibility for your clinical work and professional practice. Our agreement defines the shared support, financial terms, and office arrangements so we can begin with clear expectations.

Your clinical autonomy

  • Choose the clients and populations you are equipped to serve.
  • Use therapeutic approaches within your training and competence.
  • Manage your schedule within available office arrangements.
  • Develop your specialties and professional identity.

Your professional responsibilities

  • Maintain your license and professional liability insurance.
  • Meet applicable legal and ethical standards.
  • Keep documentation current and communicate with your clients.
  • Manage continuity of care and supervision when required.
Compensation
Clinicians receive an agreed percentage of collected session revenue. The split, session-fee arrangement, payment-processing deductions, and payment procedures are explained in your contractor agreement. We review these terms together before you commit.
Office arrangements
We consider your intended practice size, preferred days, and available space when discussing an office arrangement. Space assignments may be reviewed as office use and practice needs change.
Associate supervision
Associate-licensed clinicians arrange and pay for their own clinical supervision with a Joshua Tree clinical supervisor.

Building your caseload takes active participation. Joshua Tree’s marketing and client inquiries support your visibility. You also help appropriate clients find you by communicating your specialty and developing referral relationships. Caseload size and income are not guaranteed.

Locations + Practice Options

In-person + hybrid practice

Tell us whether you want to build a part-time or full-time practice, your preferred days, and whether you would like to combine office sessions with telehealth. You can also indicate interest in Saturday office use. We will discuss arrangements within available space.

Fully remote practice

Telehealth-only arrangements are considered selectively. We look for a focused specialty, a well-defined client population, and a clear plan for reaching those clients. Demand for telehealth is currently more limited, so a strong clinical niche matters.

Let’s talk about availability. Specific office days and openings can change. We will review current options with you during the application process, taking into account the caseload you hope to build and the space available.

Begin the Conversation

Tell us who you are as a therapist.

If you see your strengths and values reflected here, we would like to learn more about you. Our application process gives us both a chance to consider whether Joshua Tree fits the practice you want to build.

  1. Introduce yourself.

Email your résumé and a letter of interest to Kelly and Rachel. Your letter helps us understand why you want to make Joshua Tree your counseling home.

  2. Share your clinical identity.

After an initial review, selected candidates receive a clinician worksheet. It explores your experience, clinical focus, preferred populations, therapeutic approaches, and the qualities that distinguish your work.

  3. Explore the fit together.

Interviews follow a review of the completed worksheet. We discuss your goals, how your specialties complement the collective, and whether the arrangement feels like a good fit for both of us.

In your letter,
help us get to know you.

  • Why you are interested in practicing at Joshua Tree.
  • A brief description of your Christian testimony and faith journey.
  • The clients you serve best and the work you most want to do.
  • Your preferred location or format, days, and intended practice size.

Ready to introduce yourself?

Send your résumé and letter of interest to both Kelly and Rachel so our practice manager and owner can review your introduction. We look forward to learning about you and your work.
