Nando Schlecht, MA, LAC is a Tucson trauma therapist and career counselor who specializes in helping adults heal from trauma, including military trauma, childhood abuse, institutional betrayal, and work-related stress in first responders and healthcare professionals. He enjoys helping clients rediscover their vocational identity and align their work with their strengths and values. As a U.S. Army veteran, Nando brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to his work—offering deep attunement to those who’ve experienced trauma in high-stakes, high-impact environments. In addition to trauma therapy, Nando offers career counseling that helps clients rediscover their vocational identity and align their work with their strengths and values. For many, this becomes a crucial piece of the healing process—transforming survival mode into a purposeful and fulfilling life. His focus when helping people heal from deep, complex trauma, especially when it feels too big, too old, or too overwhelming, is helping you to feel less alone as you work it through.
Clients appreciate his calm, grounded presence and the way he creates space for honesty and growth without judgment. Nando is trained in multiple trauma-focused therapies and tailors his approach to meet each client’s specific needs, whether that’s processing combat-related memories, addressing institutional or workplace trauma, or navigating the deep impact of childhood neglect and abuse.
In his work, Nando recognizes that trauma often leaves people feeling disconnected from themselves, unsure of their worth, and exhausted from surviving. His goal is to help clients restore their inner sense of safety and identity—not by pushing past the pain, but by meeting it with care, curiosity, and evidence-based tools that gently shift the way the brain and body hold that pain. Healing with Nando means coming home to yourself in a way that feels steady, empowering, and deeply earned.
Nando integrates several advanced trauma therapies into his work—including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). Each of these approaches helps clients access and process the deeper roots of trauma—not just intellectually, but neurologically and emotionally. These methods are especially effective when talk therapy alone hasn’t been enough, and when trauma is stored in the body in ways that don’t respond to logic or willpower. Nando’s approach to therapy is neuroscience-informed, compassion-centered, and grounded in practical strategies that help his clients process their pain and rebuild their lives. He specializes in identifying and clearing trauma triggers, challenging negative core beliefs, and working with the nervous system to create safety and stability from the inside out. His sessions focus on healing the long-lasting emotional and physical impacts of trauma, while restoring the natural drive toward connection, meaning, and purpose.
With EMDR, Nando helps clients reprocess distressing memories using bilateral stimulation, which can reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic events and shift negative beliefs that formed around them. Brainspotting allows clients to access deep brain regions involved in emotional regulation by focusing on fixed eye positions connected to specific emotional or somatic pain points. And with Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)—a modality rooted in cutting-edge neuroscience—Nando guides clients gently through the body’s original response to threat, allowing core attachment wounds and shock to be released at the brainstem level.
These aren’t one-size-fits-all techniques—Nando uses them thoughtfully, based on each client’s unique story, goals, and nervous system readiness. Whether you’re dealing with persistent triggers, chronic anxiety, or a sense of emotional shutdown, these therapies offer a way to move from survival mode to regulation, resilience, and real freedom. Nando’s steady presence and clinical precision help make the process feel safe, grounded, and empowering.
Whether you’re carrying the invisible wounds of trauma or feeling lost in your life’s direction, Nando can help you reconnect with your sense of self, reclaim your story, and build a future you actually want to live
Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Nando spent his formative years exploring the desert landscapes and building lifelong connections. After graduating from Sahuarita High School, Nando enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18, serving as a Redleg and completing a combat deployment in Afghanistan from 2012 to 2013. Following an honorable discharge, Nando navigated significant life transitions—including marriage, fatherhood, divorce, and remarriage—while pursuing higher education.
He earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in psychology and clinical mental health counseling, and now finds deep fulfillment in his work as a counselor.
Outside of his professional realm, Nando cherishes road trips to Colorado with his family and enjoys a good cup of black coffee from local favorites like Yellow Brick and EXO Roast Co. A fan of card games such as Exploding Kittens and Unstable Unicorns, he also enjoys strength training at the gym and finds solace in the fictional worlds of Dune and The Lord of the Rings. Brunch spots like The Nook and Le Buzz are among his go-to places, and he has a passion for writing poetry.
Nando looks forward to the opportunity to get to know and support others on their journey.
