MARYBETH STEIGENGA, PhD, BCPC

“Wise, practical Christian counseling for women in mid-life, and couples.”

If you’re a Christian woman in midlife or beyond—navigating loss, chronic illness, identity shifts, or the ache of an emptying nest—Marybeth Steigenga offers a steady, faith-filled space to process and heal. As a PhD and board-certified pastoral counselor with more than 20 years of experience, Marybeth understands the unique challenges these seasons bring: grief that lingers, questions about purpose, and the quiet longing to feel anchored in your story again. She blends clinical knowledge, biblical wisdom, and genuine compassion to help you move forward with courage and clarity.

Marybeth is a storyteller and teacher at heart, known for turning complex ideas about brain science, emotional regulation, and relationship patterns into everyday language and practical action steps. Whether you’re meeting for individual counseling or faith-based marriage coaching, you can expect a warm, creative approach that feels both supportive and empowering. She often integrates the Enneagram, attachment theory, SYMBIS, and Prepare/Enrich to help you or your relationship grow in self-awareness, communication, and spiritual depth. Clients appreciate that they leave sessions feeling seen, equipped, and often with a journal prompt or worksheet to keep the momentum going (because yes, homework helps).

Marybeth shows up as both a fellow traveler and a steady support—someone who believes healing is possible and growth is worth pursuing. Whether you’re processing decades of loss, learning to navigate a new season of marriage, or simply longing to feel more like yourself again, she will meet you with kindness, honesty, and a little humor along the way. Her greatest joy is helping you become the person God created you to be: faith-filled, emotionally grounded, and living with clarity and confidence.

How Marybeth Can Help

Marybeth specializes in walking alongside Christian women navigating the layered challenges of midlife and later seasons of life. Whether you’re facing grief, chronic illness, an unexpected career change, or the bittersweet shift of parenting adult children, she offers a space where your story is honored without judgment. These transitions can stir up deep questions—about identity, faith, and what it means to feel purposeful again. Marybeth helps you process what’s been lost, explore what’s emerging, and discover how to move forward with both grace and intention.

In her work with married or soon-to-be married couples, Marybeth provides faith-based coaching that blends biblical wisdom with practical relationship tools. She uses frameworks like SYMBIS, Prepare/Enrich, the Enneagram, and attachment theory to help couples communicate more openly, grow in emotional safety, and reconnect with their shared values. Whether you’re preparing for marriage or trying to rebuild connection after years together, Marybeth brings curiosity, humor, and insight to help you understand each other—and yourselves—more deeply.

Marybeth’s sessions are warm, structured, and always collaborative. She is a teacher at heart and believes growth happens when we tell the truth, get curious about our patterns, and invite God into the process. You won’t just talk about change—you’ll practice it, step by step, with support and accountability. Along the way, you can expect journal prompts, worksheets, and soul-nourishing reflections that turn insight into action. Whether you’re ready to heal from old wounds, clarify your next season, or simply feel more anchored in who God made you to be, Marybeth offers steady, faith-filled guidance for the journey.

Marybeth often integrates the Enneagram as a framework to help clients better understand their core motivations, relational patterns, and emotional triggers. She appreciates how this ancient tool shines a light on the ways we cope, connect, and sometimes get stuck in reactive cycles—especially during seasons of transition or stress. Whether you’re brand new to the Enneagram or already familiar with your type, Marybeth will help you explore it with curiosity and grace, using it as a springboard for deeper self-awareness, spiritual growth, and more compassionate relationships.

Marybeth offers Christian premarital counseling that blends biblical wisdom with practical preparation for lifelong partnership. She uses SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) as a structured framework to help couples explore essential topics—like communication styles, conflict patterns, expectations, finances, and spiritual values—before they become challenges in marriage. Through this process, you’ll gain insight into your unique dynamics, discover areas of strength, and identify potential growth points. Marybeth’s goal is to help you build a solid foundation rooted in faith, self-awareness, and shared understanding, so you can step into marriage with clarity and confidence.

On a more personal note....

I’ve been married for over 30 years—proof that love, grace, and the occasional strategic snack break can sustain a lifetime together. My husband and I have raised three adult kids we’re both proud of and still learning from, and we share our desert home with six quirky dogs who keep us laughing (and vacuuming). I love the wide-open skies of Arizona, the quiet joy of a good book, and the simple pleasure of a midday nap. When I’m not meeting with clients, you’ll often find me writing, reading, or crafting rhyming poems—because sometimes life’s messiest moments make the best couplets.
